Italy's Eugenio Monti
lent the British pair, Antony Nash and Robin Dixon, an axle bolt which helped them win a
gold medal in the two-man bob. Eugenio Monti and Sergio Siorpaes had to settle for third;
behind fellow countrymen Sergio Zardini and Romano Bonagura.
The sliders first entered the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.
Cleaning up in the 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, and the 3,000m, speed skater Lidiya
Skoblikova became the first person to win four gold medals in a single Winter Olympics
and the only woman to win six gold medals in individual Winter events; having won the
1,500m and 3,000m events at Squaw Valley 1960.
The large hill (K120) competition was added to Ski Jumping.
